Dassault created its heavy fighter to compete with the F-15 Eagle, with aerodynamics and equipment developed for the Mirage 2000. The aircraft showed promise, but was unable to secure any orders. Birds of Prey continues its tradition of exploring aircraft that almost made it into service, allowing players to explore what might have been, had air forces and governments made different choices.
Most famous in its white demonstration scheme, the prototype wore a desert camouflage for marketing in the Middle East.
